How to Apply
We are excited that you are interested in St. Mary's! You may call the Admission Office to request application forms or you may download them below. Please do not hesitate to call Rebecca Naumes, the Director of Admission, if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach her at 541-773-7877 or by e-mail at admissions@smschool.us.
Application Dates
Parents may submit the application with the $50 application fee after October 1. Applications, including the family interview, must be completed by February 15. After February 15 any remaining openings will be filled on a rolling admission basis.
Tuition and Fees
In late January of each year, the St. Mary’s School Board of Trustees publishes tuition and the annual family registration fee for the upcoming academic year.
The parents/guardians of accepted applicants complete an enrollment contract once tuition has been set for the year. This enrollment contract accompanies an annual family registration fee which holds a student’s place in the class. Pre-registration begins in February. The registration fee is non-refundable unless an applicant is also waiting for a financial aid package. Tuition grants, however, will not be awarded without a signed enrollment contract on file. A completed enrollment contract is an agreement to pay tuition for the entire school year.
St. Mary’s offers three tuition payment options: a) eleven monthly installments; b) two semi-annual payments; or c) one annual payment.
Tuition Grants (financial aid)
We encourage families to apply for a need-based tuition grant. Parents interested in applying for financial aid should so indicate on the application. Financial aid is determined by family need as demonstrated by the submission of the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) to the Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) program. Please go directly to the admissions page on the St. Mary’s website at www.smschool.us to apply online. The submission deadline for all tuition grant forms, including copies of tax documents, is March 22. Financial aid awards are generally made in early May.
Application Procedure
Instructions
Step 1 - The Parent Statement (Form 1)
Please share your perspective on your student’s abilities and strengths, as well as areas for growth. A current photograph of your child is requested to help the Admission Committee put a face with a name!
Step 2 - The Student Statement (Form 2)
The student will be asked to answer a series of questions designed to give the Admission Committee an understanding of his or her areas of interest, and to assist the Committee in making a decision that matches the student’s aptitudes and skills with our curriculum.
Step 3 - Request for Transcripts (Form 3)
Please include the last two years of grade reports including any state testing results with your application. We do not require official transcripts directly from the student's current school.
Step 4 - Schedule an Admission Interview
When you have submitted your forms to the Admission Office and are ready for a family interview, please give us a call. Admission interviews generally take about 20 minutes and are an informal, “get-to-know-you” time. The applicant will meet with the Director of Admission while the parents meet with the Director or Advancement to learn about the role of parents at St. Mary's.
Step 5 - Optional Shadow Day
Many families find it helpful to have the applicant "shadow" a host student for a day to get a first-hand look at what St. Mary's is like. This is not a requirement, but we are happy to offer this opportunity. If you are interested please contact the Admission Office.
Decisions
Admission decisions will be mailed out by mid-March. Tuition grant decisions will be mailed by May 15. You will be notified by mail and will have two weeks to return the enrollment contract sent with acceptance letters.
After February 15 any remaining openings will be filled on a rolling admission basis. For these applications, the Admission Committee will mail decisions generally within two weeks of the interview.
