Past trips

September 14-16, 2012: Kayaks on the Rogue

We kicked off the new school year with an incredible camping and river experience. Participants enjoyed a weekend with lots of rugged scenery, a fun and exciting day piloting inflatable kayaks down the river, two nights under the stars, and outdoor cooking at its very best.

August 6-12, 2012: Three Sisters Wilderness backpacking trip

This six-night trip took us deep into one of Oregon’s premier wilderness areas, just west of Bend in the central Oregon Cascades.  The Three Sisters Wilderness Area features volcanic peaks, thick forests, wildflower meadows, and scenic lakes. The weather couldn't have been better, with sunny skies and warm temperatures.

November 12, 2011: Lava Beds Caving Trip

(Click image to see more pictures!)
This is another annual outdoor trip that has become incredibly popular in recent years.  Participants spend the day exploring caves left behind by ancient lava flows near Tule Lake, California. Then, on the way back to Medford, the group stops for a huge pizza banquet in Klamath Falls.

October 1, 2011: Mt. McLoughlin Day Hike

(Click image to see more pictures!)

By popular demand, the Outdoor Club climbed one of southern Oregon's most prominent peaks in October.  This is not a hike that requires any technical climbing ability.  However, it is a long and moderately strenuous hike  (5.5 miles one way).  Of course, once the summit is reached, the view from the top is positively stunning.  A warm autumn day in the middle of what is normally our Indian summer is a wonderful time to visit the high country.  Both Upper and Middle School students are welcome.

September 16-18, 2011: Kayaks on the Klamath

Late summer is an awesome time on the river! We had a great double-overnight trip on the Klamath River in northern California near Happy Camp.  We floated from Ferry Point to Coon Creek in rafts and tahitis, with camping at Dillon Creek campground.

August 9-18, 2011: Backpacking in the Marble Mountain Wilderness

(Click image to see more pictures!)
Our annual nine-day backpacking trip found us in the Marble Mountain Wilderness, near Fort Jones in northern California.  The weather and conditions couldn't have been better, with daytime temperatures in the high 70s and brisk overnight.  We visited some beautiful lakes, including one perched on a ledge hundreds of feet above another.

July 22-August 1, 2011: Utah and Cataract Canyon

(Click image to see more pictures!)
This 11-day trip to the canyonlands of Utah included a day of mountain biking along the canyon rim, day hikes, and a five-day float down the Colorado River through Cataract Canyon. We explored the country near the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers, working with local mountain bike guides and river outfitters.
