  • Why is St. Mary’s implementing a school-provided and managed Chromebook program?

Over the past decade, student and faculty use of online tools has increased dramatically. While our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program served the school well when digital use was more limited, today it presents challenges related to cybersecurity, instructional consistency, and classroom management. A school‑provided device program allows us to better protect students, support teachers, and ensure a more consistent learning experience for all.
  • When does this change take effect?

All students will receive their school-provided device at orientation for the 2026-27 academic year or on their first day of school if they begin after August 20, 2026.
  • What type of device will students receive?

Students will be provided with an industry-standard Chromebook from CTL designed for daily use within a K-12 education environment.
  • Will students be able to take their school-provided Chromebooks home?

Students will be able to take their school-provided Chromebooks home in order to complete homework assignments, study for upcoming tests, conduct online research for essays, etc.
  • Can my student use their personal laptop instead of a school-provided Chromebook in the classroom?

Students will no longer be able to use their personal laptops on campus and will need to use their school-provided Chromebook to access the campus network and online educational resources.
  • Will the school be monitoring activity on school-provided Chromebooks?

Student safety is a top priority at St. Mary’s. School-provided Chromebooks will be licensed, enrolled, and managed within our Google Workspace for Education domain. Our IT Department will have visibility into hardware diagnostics reporting for these devices, as well as the ability to implement access policies and install educational software. Additionally, Internet access will be filtered 24/7 on these devices in order to protect students from inappropriate and harmful web content. All web-browsing activity from school-provided and managed devices will be logged.
  • Can parents monitor what their students access on their school-provided Chromebooks?

Parents can opt-in to having access to view their child’s recent searches, sites visited, and videos watched on their child’s school-provided device. You’ll receive more information about this at the beginning of the school year.
  • What happens if a Chromebook is damaged or lost?

If a school-provided Chromebook is damaged or lost, it will be replaced, and the family will be billed accordingly for a replacement device per the terms of our Managed Chromebook Agreement.
  • Who do I contact with further questions?
