After a one year hiatus, the Crusader Harriers returned to the Clam Beach Run to run good times and have a good time. The Crusader cross country team has been attending this unusual event, which is run entirely on the beach of Trinidad, CA since 2016. This race serves as the team's overnight trip, where they stay at the Wolf Creek Outdoor Ed School in the Redwoods National Park just north of Orick, CA.
In addition to being unique for the surface that the race is run on (much slower footing), it is also unique in that of the sixteen schools competing, St. Mary's was one of only two schools from Oregon.
The top Crusade boys' finisher, freshman Jack Peterson, finished 12th (out of 68 runners) running a St. Mary's course best time of 18:08.3 for the 3 mile course (just .45 of a second out the top 10) to lead the boys to a 6th place team finish.
On the distaff side, junior Liz McGill earned top medalist honors with her 18th place 24:45.99 finish. Unfortunately, the girls team did not field a full scoring squad.
A big thanks goes out to all the parent chaperones/drivers, who helped make this trip run so successfully.
