Cross Country Umpqua Opener

The Crusader Harriers ran superlative races at Wednesday's Umpqua Opener. Sophomore, Adley Damon (1st), led the girls team of Esther Arthur (14th), Anna Arthur (15th), Liz McGill (16th), and Natalie Hung (20th) to a second place team finish to 4A North Bend 34-37 in this 17 school meet.

Adley's time of 18:63, in addition to being a lifetime PR, moved her to #2 on the StM 5000m all-time list (behind only Marissa Dobry c/o '16). Sophomore sisters Esther and Anna improved by 2 minutes over their time from last year on this course.

In the boys' race, freshman Jack Peterson's 8th place finish (17:39.8) led the Crusader boys to a 3rd place team finish behind Bandon (2A) and Roseburg (6A) and ahead of 3A SD-4 rivals Douglas, Glide, Sutherlin, and South Umpqua.

Jack's transition from MS XC (3k) last year to HS XC (5k) proved to be light work despite feeling the effects of the previous night's soccer game against 3A state rival Catlin Gabel. While lifetime PRs were not attained by the other Crusader boys, Harry Wiencek, Brady Stenson, and Dawson Ghavam  all ran course PRs ranging from 1 minute to three minutes faster from last year's race.
