Students Build Cottage for Refugees

A change in plans makes for a memorable trip for St. Mary's Students
St.Mary’s students partnered with Casas De Luz to build a sleeping cottage for a refugee family as part of the Peace Village project in San Diego, California. Students learned advanced carpentry skills as they engaged in every step of the construction process, from the foundation to the roof and everything in between. On the third day of the build, they took a break to enjoy a little bit of fun in the sun!

The annual missions trip to Mexico returned this year after a hiatus due to COVID. Before St. Mary's sends students or staff on any international trip, it consults with the State Department to ensure safe travel. This year the school was advised not to enter Mexico. Instead, Casas De Luz found a wonderful opportunity for students stateside.
